There’s literally billions of places to stay in the UK with a motorhome! Not sure where to start? Well, you’ve come to the right place. This month, we’re getting out the maps and compass, and conjuring some paradisiacal images to kickstart your summer travels. From the tin mines of south west Cornwall, to the highest peaks of the Scottish highlands – you cannot fail. Go forth, fellow motorhome driver, and claim your tiny pitch of land for the night on this great isle.
The Lake District, England
As the largest national park in the UK, the Lake District won’t disappoint, unless you’re looking for lakes. In which case, you’ll be surprised to find there’s only one lake in the Lake District – Bassenthwaite Lake, which has several campsites on its shores. If you want to sail into the sunset elsewhere, there’s the 16 meres, tarns and reservoirs that give the Lake District its reputation as a centre for water sports and recreation.
The Peak District, England
Literally the best national park on the list for reasons that are unfathomable. Are the peaks the highest? Are the lakes the biggest or trails the longest and most challenging? Certainly not, but the Peak District has charmed casual ramblers and avid mountaineers for millenia. Let it charm you from the comfort of your own motorhome.
Norfolk, England
It’s a bit like the part of Holland that forgot to break off with mainland Europe – and by that we mean it’s very flat! Which is useful if your motorhome is underpowered in anyway. The wide, expansive A roads that connect all the major sights in Norfolk are also ample for large campervans. There are hundreds of defunct churches to explore, beautiful beaches, wildlife and, if you’re into that sort of thing, Sandringham House, where the Queen likes to stay on occasion.
Scotland
You could kayak on the Lochs of the west highlands, swim in the fresh waters of the Fairy Pools on the Isle of Skye or even drive the entire North Coast 500. The latter was voted one of the best coastal drives in the world! You’ll be spoilt for choice in Scotland and of course, if you want to add an urban destination to your journey, there’s the world class cities of Edinburgh, Glasgow and Inverness. There’s also the world’s largest concentration of midges in Scotland with approximately 10,000 midges per Scot.
Wales
Once again, we’ve lumped an entire country into one section. Why? Because you can go anywhere in Wales and find stunning scenery and fantastic campsites. For the best of the best, see the Pembrokeshire coast in the south, the Great Orme in the north and Snowdonia for the best of everything in between including winding roads, slate mines, abandoned quarries, fantastic rambling, climbing, swimming, tourist centres, castles and much more.
