A 2016 poll showed Bailey Auto-sleeper motorhomes and caravans are the most popular manufacturer for first-time buyers.

Euros - The cost of travelling across Europe can add up if left uncontrolled.

The poll was conducted by insurance specialists, Caravan Guard, and they asked new and experienced buyers to indicate the caravan and motorhome manufacturers that they bought their first vehicle or tow from.

10% of motorhome buyers said Bailey Auto-sleepers were their first choice, whereas those who bought a Bailey caravan represented 13% of survey responders.

Coming a very close second in the poll was Elddis and Volkswagen for motorhomes, who clocked 8% of the votes each.

Of those surveyed, a majority had bought their first caravans or motorhomes during the 70s and 80s and were now on their 2nd or 3rd motorhome or caravan.

Featuring high in the list is German favourite, Hymer, with 4%. Hymer specialise in the conversion of many Fiat chassis as well as high end Mercedes Benz chassis.

As of 2016, the UK motorhome industry is thriving thanks, in part, to the 12,000 registrations in Britain alone. The remarkably high number comes from the National Caravan Council following a freedom of information request to the DVLA.

The exact number totals 12,332 motorhomes, compared to 10,572 in 2015, amounting to a 16.6% increase within 12 months. During the economic recovery, market pundits have attributed the rise to a slight increase in disposable income for some, and the versatility of modern motorhome products.

‘Short breaks and holidays at short notice are growing in popularity with UK holidaymakers’ – this is the view of NCC Director General John Lally. Motorhomes are the ideal vehicle for this kind of micro adventure, with many campers choosing ‘staycations’ (a holiday in your home country) over costly flights abroad.

All this means it’s clearly the right time to pull the trigger on the motorhome purchase of your dreams. With such a strong market, vendors are looking to strengthen their figures and are offering fantastic deals over the winter period, which is traditionally a slow season. So, take advantage and pick up the keys to your next adventure today. Contact the experts.
